About our Church

Our Mission

At First Baptist Gray, we're passionate about Being the Church that makes Jesus known in our community and throughout the world.  We are a Christ-centered community of believers that gathers to grow and serve others in His name.

What We Believe

The Authority of Scripture

We receive the Holy Scriptures as our final authority in all matters of faith and practice. We commit ourselves to the truthfulness of the Bible and seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit in understanding it.

The Nature of God and Jesus Christ

  • The Trinity: We believe there is one true God, whom we are called to worship with our whole lives.

  • The Headship of Christ: Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church. All power for the government of the church is invested supremely in Him.

  • Image of God: Every person is created in the image and nature of God. Because all human life is sacred and created by God, it is of inestimable worth from conception through natural death.

Doctrine and Heritage

Our understanding of Christian truth is in essential accord with the beliefs of Southern Baptist Churches. Specifically, our church affirms the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.

The Church and Covenant

The Church is a community of God's people composed of true disciples of Jesus Christ.

  • The New Covenant: God has established a new covenant with His people through Christ.

  • Ordinances: We glorify God by administering the ordinances of Baptism (by immersion after salvation) and Communion.

  • The Mission: We are commanded by God to make disciples of every nation, tribe, and language, sharing the gospel to the ends of the earth.

Marriage, Sexuality, and Gender

  • Marriage: We believe marriage is a single, exclusive covenantal relationship uniting one biological man and one biological woman.

  • Sexual Intimacy: God intends for sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other. Any form of sexual activity outside of this bond is considered sinful.

  • Gender: God immutably creates each person as male or female. We believe these two distinct, complementary genders reflect the image of God, and the rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of that image.

Redemption and Grace

While we hold to biblical standards of holiness, we believe God offers redemption and restoration to everyone who confesses and repents of their sin, seeking His mercy through Jesus Christ. We believe every person must be treated with compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity.
